Xtool D1 Pro laser engraver

Unlock Your DIY Creativity with xTool D1 Pro 20w, The High-Performance Laser Engraver for Metal and Wood

Overview

xTool D1 Pro 20w is the most powerful desktop diode laser engraver that I’ve reviewed. Generally, most desktop engravers come with a 5-watt or 10-watt laser module. Like the TwoTrees TS2 10W laser engraver which is good for engraving but may not be powerful enough for cutting thicker materials. I will test this xTool D1 Pro 20w machine out and see what kind of cutting power we can get from this 20-watt module. Besides that, the xTool D1 Pro also has a very nice appearance, everything looks pretty look to me!

Look at the xTool packages and assembling

I was finally able to get my hands on a laser that can actually engrave well and it’s pretty easy to use as well. But anyways, the entire laser is nicely packed but it also needs to be assembled. But with everything out of the box, you can see that most of it is already put together into these bigger parts and this made assembly extremely easy, especially with the full-color instruction manual which goes over everything in detail with really large pictures.

The xTool D1 Pro 20W is a 120W machine with 84W laser electric power and a 20W laser module output power. What surprised me is that it has an engraver speed of 400 mm/s and a working area of 430 * 390 mm (16.93 * 15.35 inches). Normally, It has USB/Wi-Fi/TF Card connecting interfaces and is certified by FCC / FDA / CE. Besides, it is compatible with Windows/macOS operating systems and can be controlled by xTool Creative Space / LightBurn software. It supports file types such as SVG/DXF/JPG/JPEG/PNG/BMP/TIF/CR2, etc.

Safe to use

It also comes with wi-fi support for safety features like a frame detector that stops the machine if it catches fire. A gyroscope to stop the machine during unexpected movement or if it drops.

It uses inductive limit switches on both the x and y axis and there is a lever attached to the laser module for you to adjust the focal length easily for the motion system instead of rubber wheels it uses steel wheels and shafts which should be more durable.

Engraving and cutting power test

we started with ten thousand millimeters per minute and engrave with different power levels from ten percent to a hundred percent, this job will take one minute and fifty seconds. The result seems pretty good it can leave some marks on the plywood when using 30% power at 10 000mm/min.

When using the same file and speed it up to 15 000 millimeters per minute and see what kind of results we can get. We can no longer see anything at 30 percent or lower power at the speed for dithering in the grayscale mode it’s a bit lighter than using ten thousand millimeters per minute. Doing it one more time at 20 000 millimeters per minute and all three of the different speeds can actually do some engraving, but I think using ten thousand is easy to control and the result is the best when engraving on this three-millimeter plywood.

In the 4mm plywood cutting test, we started with 100mm/min speed and cut with different power levels from 10% to 100%. As you can see, at 100mm/min cutting speed, 10% laser power works well for cutting wood. When the speed is increased to 500mm/min, 70% laser power is required to cut wood well. At 600mm/min, this is required at 100% power to cut 4mm of plywood. In a conclusion, xTool D1 pro 20w laser engraver is not let you down, both in engraving speed and cutting. Besides, if you want to have more powerful cutting ability, the D1 pro can upgrade with xTool 40W laser module.

These features impress me the most

First, the function of adjusting the focal length for better cutting results.

adjusting the focal length for better cutting results

We can adjust the focus height of the laser head according to the thickness of the required cutting material. In order to get better cutting results, xTool gives us a thickness-scale comparison list. It is appreciated that xTool has seriously considered how to improve customers’ experiences.

Secondly, excellent performance in cutting, cutting 19mm wood in 1 pass with the powerful laser output.

xtool d1 pro laser engraver cut 19mm wood in 1 pass

Using 100 millimeters per minute and try to cut through in one pass with a 20-watt laser module. To my excitement, it cut through completely and this is the thickest wood I can cut with a diode laser with a single pass. The edges are also super clean and I’m very impressed with the result, I measured the board again and it was actually a bit thicker than 19 millimeters.

Thirdly, meet your most DIY creation needs with the rotary accessory RA2 Pro.

The high-performance 1064nm infrared laser module for all metal materials

If you have more creativity needs on many metal materials, xTool D1 Pro is also easy to alter to the 1064nm laser module, for high-performance engraving metal materials. This 1064nm laser module needs you to buy it separately.

Why 1064 infrared laser can engrave metal?

The 1064nm infrared laser can engrave metal because it is absorbed by the metal, causing it to heat up and vaporize. This vaporization process is what creates the engraving. The 1064nm wavelength is particularly effective at engraving metal because it is absorbed more strongly by the metal than other wavelengths.1064nm infrared laser can engrave on a variety of metals, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, brass, copper, gold, Nickel, Cobalt, Zinc, and silver.

Conclusion

This is a high-quality premium laser engraver the hardware is way better than a standard laser engraver. it has the most powerful 20-watt laser and is able to easily alter to the 1064nm laser module. With a very nice appearance, in terms of quality, it is definitely one of the best in the market.
